Quinine is a quinoline derivative and has a strong killing effect on various erythrocytic schizonts of Plasmodium. It can combine with Plasmodium DNA to form complexes, inhibit DNA replication and RNA transcription, thereby inhibiting the protein synthesis of protozoa, but the effect is weaker than chloroquine. It can also reduce the oxygen consumption of Plasmodium, inhibit the phosphorylase in Plasmodium and interfere with its sugar metabolism. It also causes agglutination of malarial pigments, but it develops slowly and rarely forms large clumps. In the blood, a certain concentration of Quinine can lead to premature rupture of the parasitized red blood cells, thus preventing the schizont from maturing. Quinine has no effect on the infrared phase and does not cure benign malaria. A long course of treatment can cure P. falciparum, but it has no direct effect on the gametophyte of P. falciparum, so it cannot interrupt transmission. In addition, Quinine has an inhibitory effect on the myocardium, prolongs the refractory period, slows conduction, and weakens its contractility. There is a weak excitatory effect on the uterus during pregnancy.

Effect

Quinine is an important antimalarial drug for the erythrocytic protozoa of P. falciparum that inhibits its reproduction or kills it. Quinine also inhibits myocardial contractility and increases uterine rhythmic contraction.

Pregnant women are disabled, quinine has oxytocin, can pass the placenta, causing fetal hearing damage and congenital defects of the central nervous system, limbs. Nursing women with caution.
For patients with asthma, atrial fibrillation and other severe heart diseases, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, myasthenia gravis, and optic neuritis should be used with caution.
Cardiomyopathy and pregnant women are disabled. Treatment of cerebral malaria with quinine is dangerous, and it is dangerous for people who are allergic to quinine.
