Japan will test urine screening for cancer

Release date: 2018-04-24

According to a recent report by the Physicist Organization Network, Hitachi, Japan is preparing to implement the world's first test for detecting cancer through urine samples. If successful, it will greatly promote the screening of deadly diseases and achieve early detection and early treatment. It is reported that the company will cooperate with Nagoya University in April to carry out this test, which will last until September.

Hitachi developed a basic technology for screening breast or colon cancer through urine samples two years ago. Company spokesman Xiao Ping Qian Zhi said that the method will be tested using about 250 urine samples to determine if the sample at room temperature is suitable for analysis. He said: "If this method can be put into practice, then cancer screening will become easier and there is no need to go to a medical institution for blood testing."

This method will also be used to detect pediatric cancer. Xiaoping Qianzhi said that children are generally afraid of injections (blood collection). Therefore, "this method is especially suitable for cancer detection in young children."

There are many ways to detect cancer. Earlier this year, studies have shown that a new blood test method is expected to detect eight different tumors before cancer cells spread.

Conventional diagnostic methods for breast cancer include X-ray examination of the breast and biopsy if a risk of cancer is found. For colon cancer, screening is usually performed by stool examination and colonoscopy.

In a statement, Hitachi said that the core of its technology is to detect waste in urine samples - a naturally occurring substance that can be used as a "biomarker" to determine a particular condition.

Xiaoping Qianzhi explained that this cancer detection program aims to promote the early detection of cancer, thereby saving lives and reducing the medical and social costs of cancer.

He said: "We hope that this technology can be put into use in the 1920s, but it depends on many factors, such as government approval."
