Japan uses synthetic technology to synthesize human collagen in silkworm

Professor Giri Shengli of the Institute of Natural Science at Hiroshima University in Japan used genetically modified technology to successfully synthesize human Collagen in the silkworm body, causing people's concern. Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun reported on the 17th that Professor Giri injected human genes into silkworm eggs, and finally extracted silk fibers containing proteinaceous collagen from silkworm cocoons. The collagen content was about 1%. Professor Giri believes that extracting collagen through chemical substances and enzymes is not a problem, but if it is to be applied in industrial production, the collagen content in silk fiber must be increased to 5% to 10%. Collagen is a protein that constitutes skin and cartilage and is widely used in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and other fields. The results of Japanese scientists have made it possible to use the "bio-factory" to mass produce pharmaceutical and cosmetic collagens, and it is expected to be widely used in cosmetics, blood coagulants and other pharmaceutical raw material production systems.
