Chemical control includes spraying fungicides like carbendazim, tumefax, or Bordeaux mixture during the rainy season, typically every 10-15 days. Physical control involves removing diseased parts, pruning, and keeping the fruit cluster at least 20-30 cm above the ground to reduce infection risk. Another common issue is grape black spot disease, which affects leaves, shoots, and fruit. Infected leaves show yellowing and deformation, while the fruit develops a "bird's-eye" appearance. Control methods include applying Bordeaux mixture or chlorothalonil before and after flowering, along with proper pruning and removal of infected plant material. Grape downy mildew is another concern, affecting leaves, shoots, and young fruit. It causes water-soaked spots and a grayish-white mold on the underside of leaves. Preventive sprays such as Bordeaux mixture or mancozeb are recommended, alongside good orchard hygiene and drainage. Grape anthracnose (also known as late rot) primarily affects the fruit, causing dark, sunken lesions and pink, viscous exudates. Prevention involves timely spraying of fungicides like thiophanate-methyl or carbendazim, along with careful removal of infected fruit before harvest. Root knot nematodes can damage the roots, leading to poor growth and reduced yield. Prevention includes disinfecting planting material and removing infected plants. Insect pests like two-star leafhoppers and red spider mites also require regular monitoring and targeted insecticide applications. For effective grape management, seasonal tasks such as pruning, irrigation, fertilization, and pest control must be carefully planned. Each month brings specific activities, from early spring pruning and bud removal to summer fruit thinning and late-season harvesting. Proper post-harvest care, including pre-cooling and storage methods like cold storage, cellar storage, or film bag storage, ensures quality and longevity of the grapes. Finally, maintaining a clean orchard, using appropriate fertilizers, and following best practices throughout the year are crucial for healthy grape production. Regular inspections and adjustments in temperature and humidity during storage help prevent spoilage and maintain high-quality fruit.
