After the autumn potted flower management points

After entering autumn, potted plants continue to grow due to their deep root systems. As a result, they require both water and essential nutrients. To support healthy growth, it's important to water regularly and apply fertilizer at the right time. Every two weeks or so, you can add a diluted liquid fertilizer, gradually increasing the concentration as the plant becomes stronger. For flowering plants like rhododendrons, pomegranates, and kumquats, focus on fertilizers rich in phosphorus and potassium to encourage strong blooms and vibrant colors. It’s also crucial to monitor your potted plants for pests and diseases. Regularly inspect the leaves and stems, and remove any scale insects or spider mites you find. Keeping the plants well-ventilated helps prevent disease and strengthens their natural defenses. During this season, plants that went dormant in summer, such as cyclamen and clivia, may be repotted or replaced if needed. This is a great time to refresh the soil and ensure they have enough space to grow. Sun-loving plants like roses, chrysanthemums, and cactus (like ball cacti) should receive plenty of sunlight. However, plants such as jasmine and Michelia prefer partial shade during the hottest part of the day, which helps extend their blooming period and enhance their fragrance. For shade-tolerant plants, make sure they get some light throughout the day. You can place them outside at night, but bring them inside to a well-ventilated area in the morning. By October, most plants can enjoy full sunlight to promote growth and flowering. For camellias, it’s important to keep only the strongest buds and remove any excess ones to ensure better flower quality. Similarly, with chrysanthemums, pinch off the side buds and set aside the main ones. Remove any buds that are too crowded, misshapen, infested, or weak to improve overall plant health. For plants like gladiolus and canna, cut back spent flowers promptly. This allows the plant to direct its energy into bulb development. By late autumn, dig up the bulbs, dry them in a well-ventilated area, and store them properly for the next growing season.
