The human health substances contained in citrus fruits have been separated by more than 30 species, among which are mainly flavonoids, monoterpenes, coumarins, carotenoids, propanols, acridine ketones, glycerol sugar lipids and the like.

Flavonoids: There are three types of flavonoids in citrus fruits: Type I is a general flavonoid represented by rutin, and Type II is a flavanone that is unique to citrus fruits such as hesperidin and naringin; Type III is a special flavonoid that contains polymethoxy groups such as citrus flavonoids that have not yet been found in other fruits and vegetables.

Carrots: As we all know, many vegetables and fruits contain carotenoids, which are extremely important for human health. The research on the physiological functions and mechanism of carotenoids has developed rapidly in recent years. China has also used this type of substances to develop some health foods and achieved industrial production.

Coumarin: The coumarin contained in citrus is an anti-cancer substance that has been fully confirmed by scientists. The results of the study showed that there are two major pathways for the formation of anti-cancer functions of coumarin: First, coumarin detoxifies cancerous substances through the action of detoxification enzymes; second, it inhibits the metabolism of cancerous substances by activating them. Both of these effects mainly produce inhibitory effects at the initial stage of cancer.

The monoterpenes and triterpene citruses contain a large number of terpenoids represented by (R)-limonene. Radon is a substance that makes up citrus's unique aroma, and it has the effect of calming the central nervous system in humans. Recent studies have also confirmed that it has an effect of reducing stress and can relieve fatigue.

Limonoid: Limonin is a bittersweet ingredient in citrus fruit juice drinks. The content of citrus fruits is about 100-200ppm. However, recent studies have found that limonin also has the function of inhibiting tumors.

Other chemical components here refer to three compounds contained in citrus: phenylpropanol, acridone, and glycerol glycolipids.
