The planting area increased from 500 mu to over 5,000 mu, and the output rose sharply from 250 tons to 2,500 tons per year. Annual output increased to about 3500 to 4500 tons. Blind development led to a bad market, the price dropped from 50 yuan in 1996 to 28 yuan in 1998, and then dropped to about 5 yuan in 2000.
