A new study in the field of psychology shows that our romantic choices are based not only on feelings and emotions, but also on whether we feel rich compared to others.

"We want to better understand the role of money in the psychological relationship of couples in a relationship, because few people understand the subject. In this way people will have a better perspective on their relationship. Dr. Darius Chan, a professor of psychology at the University of Hong Kong, explained.

These two experiments are aimed at Chinese college students with heterosexual relationships and analyze the concept of spouse selection of rich or poor couples.

In the first study they found that wealthy men were not satisfied with the attractiveness of existing objects than men who thought they were poor, and they were more interested in short-term relationships. However, wealthy women have no higher requirements for male appearance.

The second study found that all wealthy participants are more likely to attract an attractive opposite sex than those in the economically disadvantaged class. Interestingly, as expected, most men, whether wealthy or poor, will choose to sit with more attractive people.

“The study found that compared to poor students, wealthy people have higher requirements for their partner's appearance standards, and they are more willing to engage in short-term interactions. However, for women, money may change their communication strategies less because The loss of a long-term relationship will make the cost even higher," explains Chan.

From an evolutionary perspective, conditional communication strategies will maximize the success rate of our ancestors.

However, by observing people's reactions, it is found that no matter whether they think that they are rich or poor people support the theory of evolutionary psychology hypothesis, individuals will adopt their own communication strategies to deal with environmental conditions such as capital possession.

Although this research applies to specific cultures, these psychological mechanisms still play an important role in the process of human interaction. We hope that our analysis will also be discovered in other cultures because the basic mechanisms of spouse selection are very similar across cultures. Chan said.
