Cows need to supplement trace elements

1. Selenium supplement

Selenium and vitamin E play an important role in protecting animal organisms from disease infections. The lack of selenium and vitamin E can significantly reduce the cow's ability to resist breast disease. For young cows 60 days before delivery and throughout lactation, 1000 IU vitamin E and 2 mg selenium per head per day before delivery, 600-800 IU vitamin E and 2 mg selenium per day per lactation during lactation, and the disease infection rate decreased during calving At 42%, the incidence of clinical mastitis in early lactation decreased by 57%, the entire lactation period decreased by 32%, and the course of disease infection was shortened by 40-50%.

2. Zinc supplementation

The addition of organic zinc to dairy cow diets can increase milk production and reduce the number of somatic cells in milk. Zinc is a cofactor for many proteins and enzymes involved in infection and inflammation. Severe zinc deficiency can lead to an increase in the number of neutrophils in the blood and a decrease in lymphocytes. Adding 25 mg/kg of zinc methionine to dairy cows' diets reduced the number of somatic cells in milk by 50%, reduced the incidence rate by 32.6%, and significantly increased milk production.

3. Copper supplement

In the absence of copper, the physiological and metabolic functions associated with copper-containing enzymes are disrupted, reducing the resistance of cows to external disease infections, increasing the extent of tissue damage during inflammation and increasing the number of somatic cells in milk. According to experiments, young cows were divided into two groups 12 weeks before delivery and throughout the lactation period. One group fed basal diets (containing 6-7 mg/kg of copper) without additional copper, and the other group added extra basal diets. At 20 mg/kg copper, the number of breasts infected with the main pathogen in the extra copper supplementation group was reduced by 22%. Although copper deficiency is usually caused by low copper content in the feed, the use of copper by cows is also reduced when the sulphur, molybdenum, zinc or iron content in the feed is too high.
