Tenebrio breeding and application

I currently manage a tenebrio (mealworm) farming operation that spans 140 square meters. The process of producing one catty (approximately 500 grams) of yellow mealworms requires about 2.5 pounds of bran, which serves as the primary feed. Thanks to optimized conditions, the breeding cycle has been reduced to around 80 days, and the beetles can reproduce between 15 to 40 times during their lifespan. With proper management, a single worker can produce over 500 to 1,000 pounds of mealworms per month. These mealworms are not only a sustainable protein source for various purposes but are also commonly used as a live food diet for Rana sylvatica, or wood frogs. This method of farming is both efficient and environmentally friendly, making it a promising option for small-scale or commercial insect farming operations.
