How do meat pigeons freeze

Cold and Warm Management for Pigeons

1. The loft should be properly sealed to protect pigeons from cold winds. Cover the entire structure with plastic film, keeping it at least 25 cm away from the pigeon cages. Secure the canvas tightly around the outside of the loft. Additionally, cover the top 50 cm of the cage with the film to ensure a windproof environment. This will help maintain a stable temperature inside the loft.

2. Implement artificial heating methods to keep the indoor temperature above 10°C. You can use electric heating pipes or burn straw or charcoal on the floor in designated areas. However, always pay close attention to fire safety to prevent accidents.

Improving Nutrition

1. Increase the energy content in the feed by adjusting the ratio. Aim for about 75% energy feed, which can include 50% corn, 10% sorghum, 10% wheat, and 5% hemp seeds. This helps provide the necessary calories to keep pigeons healthy during colder months.

2. Adjust the health sand formula by adding 3% brown sugar, increasing the grit to 1%, and adding 2% salt. This supports digestion and overall bird health.

3. For every 1,000 breeding pairs, add 100 grams of poultry electrolyte cubes, 50 grams of methionine, and 50 grams of lysine to their feed. These supplements support immune function and growth.

Strengthening Feeding Management

1. Maintain clean and dry conditions in the loft. Regularly remove droppings and apply lime to keep the area dry. Provide fresh drinking water and clean feed daily to prevent disease and ensure good health.

2. Regulate the number of pigeons in the loft. Allow breeders to hatch two eggs and raise three young birds to avoid overcrowding and reduce stress.

3. Ensure good air circulation by opening the canvas at both ends of the loft during midday for 1–2 hours if the air becomes stuffy. This helps reduce humidity and improves air quality.

4. Minimize disturbances to the breeders and maintain a calm environment. Sudden noises or changes can cause stress, which may affect egg production and overall health.

Disease Prevention

1. Disinfect the loft floor and feeding equipment weekly using a disinfectant solution such as 100 toxins (or an appropriate alternative). This helps prevent the spread of pathogens.

2. After freezing weather, focus on preventing diseases like paratyphoid and respiratory infections. Use common antibiotics as a preventive measure, but consult a vet for proper guidance.

3. Following snow disasters, ensure that vaccinations for Newcastle disease and avian influenza are up to date. Vaccination is crucial in preventing outbreaks.

4. Monitor the pigeons closely. If any signs of illness appear, isolate the affected birds immediately to prevent the spread of disease. Early detection is key to effective treatment.
