DIY Pallet Beds for shared kids room
If you’ve seen my inspiration board for my kids’ new room, you already know that the centerpiece is the pallet bed—a project I’ve been dreaming of for quite some time. A month or so ago, my dreams became a reality when I stumbled across a pile of free pallets at a local business. They generously offered them to me without any charge, and I couldn’t believe my luck! While sorting through the pallets, we noticed a few larger ones with enclosed sides. These caught our attention, and we decided to use them for Aliyah’s bed to add some height and visual interest. Of course, the next challenge was figuring out how to transport them home and transform them into functional beds. Thankfully, having a few strong friends around made the heavy lifting much more manageable. Once all the pallets were safely in the garage, the real fun began. My incredibly supportive husband got to work cleaning and sanding down the pallets. By the end of the day, they were completely transformed and ready for assembly. To ensure flexibility in room layout, we kept the two pallets separate rather than joining them into one solid unit. This way, I can easily move them around whenever I want to refresh the space. For Aliyah’s pallet box, after sanding it down, we visited Home Depot and purchased a large sheet of plywood. They cut it to fit perfectly over the top of the pallet. To make the bed more stable, we used screws to attach the plywood securely. It added a nice touch of professionalism and ensured the structure wouldn’t wobble under pressure. Finally, all we had to do was place the mattresses and bedding. And voilà ! Two beautiful pallet beds were born. The total cost for both beds was surprisingly low: Cost Breakdown: Total Cost = $48 Surprisingly, the entire process was easier than I anticipated, especially with the help of my husband and friends. The sanding took the most effort, but it was worth it to see the final results. If you’re working on any DIY projects lately, I’d love to hear about them. Let me know what you’re tackling—it’s always inspiring to learn from others!
