Lamb food and fattening technology

For lambs being raised for fattening, it's important to allow them to start eating early during the lactation period. This is especially crucial for goats, as they tend to have a weaker ability to feed on their own. To prevent early feeding issues and ensure proper nutrition, special attention should be given to the palatability of the feed. Goats are highly sensitive to the quality of concentrates, so it's essential to avoid moldy or fermented feeds that could cause health problems. Weaning should be timed based on the lamb’s eating behavior. It's generally recommended to wean when the lamb can consume 70-80 grams of concentrate per day. To reduce stress during the transition, water should be withheld from the pasture one night before moving the lambs. They should be transported the next day, and once at the new location, they should not be fed on the same day. Instead, provide only water and a small amount of hay to help them rest quietly. Avoid any disturbances during this time. After a day of rest, administer a combination of vaccines and insect repellent to protect against diseases and pests. Once the fattening process begins, there should always be a pre-feeding transition period, regardless of the type of fattening method used. For moderate fattening, the transition period typically includes two stages: the first stage lasts 1–3 days, during which only hay is provided to help the lambs adjust to the new environment. The second stage spans 7–10 days, with a diet consisting of 70% hay, 25% corn kernels, 4% soybean meal, and 1% salt. For strength-fattening lambs, the pre-feeding transition is divided into three stages. The first stage is 1–3 days of feeding only hay to help them adapt. In the second stage, lasting 7–10 days, the diet includes 64% hay, 25% corn kernels, 5% molasses, 5% soybean cake, and 1% salt. The third stage, lasting 10–14 days, includes 50% hay, 39% corn kernels, 5% molasses, 5% soybean cake, 1% salt, and 35 mg of antibiotics. These rations should be fed twice daily, ideally within 40 minutes each time. Adjustments can also be made based on local feed availability and resource conditions.
