Causes of accelerated wear of tractor tires and their prevention

1. Prolonged overloading of tractors places excessive stress on tires, increasing the slip rate and accelerating tire wear. When the air pressure on both sides of the tires is uneven, especially when there's a significant difference, the tire with lower pressure will wear out more quickly. This imbalance can cause rapid wear on the tires that are "eaten" by the others. Control methods: Ensure tire pressure meets the manufacturer’s specifications. During hot seasons, it may be slightly lower, typically set to the lower end of the recommended range. If tire pressure is too high, the tire plies may stretch excessively, leading to fatigue or even breakage. Conversely, if the pressure is too low, the plies may wrinkle and deform, causing the rubber layer to separate from the plies, which accelerates aging and wear. Therefore, avoid long-term overloading of the tractor to minimize tire slippage and wear. 2. The trailer's drawbar for tractor-trailers may be uneven. When the drawbar is not aligned and the difference in length reaches 60mm, the large tires on the shorter side will have their service life reduced by half, and the tires on that side will also experience increased wear. Control method: Measure the distance from the center of the drawbar pin hole to the center of the two front wheels on the trailer. These distances should be equal. If they are not, identify and fix the issue. In some cases, it may be necessary to reconfigure an isosceles drawbar to ensure proper alignment. 3. Unequal wheelbases on the left and right sides of the tractor’s front and rear wheels can cause uneven tire wear. Specifically, the front wheels on the shorter wheelbase side may lead to wear on the other three tires. Control methods: Check the wheelbase on both sides by adjusting the front wheels and comparing the shortest distances between the outer edges of the front and rear wheels. If the measurements are unequal, investigate the cause. This issue is often due to deformation in components such as the knuckle bracket, knuckle shaft, front axle, or main axle. These parts can be removed, corrected, or replaced to restore equal wheelbases on both sides. 4. Resonance within the unit can accelerate wear on the large tire. If the previous three issues have been resolved but the large tire on the right side still shows abnormal wear patterns, resonance may be the cause. In this case, the driver only needs to adjust the position of the accelerator and avoid keeping the throttle at a speed that causes resonance. Once the resonance is avoided, the tire wear will typically improve.
