Causes of accelerated wear of tractor tires and their prevention

1. Long-term overloading of tractors places excessive stress on tires, increasing the slip rate and accelerating tire wear. When the air pressure on both sides of the tires is uneven, especially when there's a significant difference, the tire with lower pressure will wear more quickly, leading to rapid deterioration. This imbalance can cause one side of the tire to "eat" the other, resulting in uneven and accelerated wear. Control methods: Ensure that tire pressure meets the manufacturer’s specifications. During hot weather, it may be slightly lower, but generally, it should be set at the minimum recommended value. If the pressure is too high, the tire plies can become overly stretched, leading to fatigue or even rupture. On the other hand, if the pressure is too low, the plies may wrinkle and deform, causing the rubber to separate from the plies and speeding up aging and wear. Therefore, avoid long-term overloading of the tractor to reduce tire slippage and wear. 2. Unequal trailer traction tripods on tractor-trailers can lead to uneven tire wear. When the trailer tripod is not aligned properly, and the difference in the waist measurement exceeds 60mm, the large tires on the short-shoulder side will experience significantly reduced service life—often by as much as half. The tires on that side will also wear out faster. Control method: Measure the distance from the center of the tripod pin hole to the center of the two front wheels on the trailer. These distances should be equal. If they are not, identify the cause and make necessary adjustments. In some cases, it may be necessary to fabricate a new isosceles tripod to ensure proper alignment. 3. Unequal wheelbases on the left and right sides of the tractor can cause tire wear. If the front and rear wheels on one side have a shorter wheelbase, it can lead to wear on all four tires, particularly the other three tires besides the one on the short side. Control methods: Check the wheelbase of the front and rear wheels on both sides by adjusting the front wheels and measuring the shortest distance between the outer edges of the front and rear tires. If the measurements are unequal, find the root cause. Common issues include bent knuckle brackets, knuckle shafts, front axles, or rear axles. These components may need to be straightened or replaced to restore equal wheelbases on both sides. 4. Resonance within the vehicle unit can accelerate tire wear. If the previous three issues are resolved, but you still notice abnormal wear patterns on the large tire on the right side, it could be due to resonance caused by the unit. In this case, the driver simply needs to adjust the position of the accelerator and avoid maintaining a speed that triggers resonance. Once the resonance is avoided, the tire wear should gradually improve.
