Using raw materials for feed fermentation is a convenient and cost-effective approach. Making your own pig feed with a starter can significantly cut down on feeding costs, which is why it has become popular among farmers. However, different production methods lead to varying results, and the key factor behind these differences is often the quality of the starter used.
In fact, high-quality feed fermentation starters are essential for successful fermentation. Jinbao feed fermentation aids are considered among the best in the market. The Jinbao microbial fermentation starter, also known as the second-generation fermentation aid, is specifically designed for feed fermentation. It is a compound microbial agent created through advanced technology, using carefully selected and purified microbial strains. This product contains various beneficial bacteria such as *Bacillus*, *Lactobacillus*, yeast, and filamentous fungi, making it suitable for fermenting a wide range of feed materials.
It can be used to ferment energy feeds, roughage, coarse grains, and other plant or animal by-products.
Here’s a simple method to make pig feed using the Jinbao starter:
1. **Materials and Proportions**
Depending on local availability, you can adjust the ingredients accordingly. Here are three common combinations:
- (1) 70% fresh chicken manure, 15% corn flour, 10% grain bran, and 5% wheat bran. Chicken manure should be free from mold; pigeon or duck manure can be used as alternatives.
- (2) 20% corn flour, 30% wheat bran, 10% rice bran, and 40% vegetable (cotton) seed meal.
- (3) 30% wheat bran, 30% rice bran, and 40% bran water (also called muddy water).
2. **Production Method**
After mixing the ingredients in the correct proportions, add 0.2% of the Jinbao starter (such as the Golden Baby II type), then add water and mix thoroughly to achieve a moisture level of around 65%. A simple way to check this is by squeezing the mixture in your hand—if it forms a clump but doesn’t drip, it's just right. Too much moisture can lead to spoilage.
Once mixed, place the material into a plastic bag or sealed container and let it ferment for about 3 days. In winter, it may take a bit longer, while in summer, it can be done in 1–2 days. When the material turns yellowish-green, smells slightly sour, and is odorless, the fermentation is complete. It is now ready to be fed to pigs.
