The four main points of setting up the safety valve

Safety Valve A safety valve is a critical device designed to protect equipment, piping systems, boilers, and pressure vessels from damage caused by excessive pressure. When the internal pressure of the system rises above the normal operating level—specifically, when it reaches the set opening pressure—the safety valve automatically opens to release a portion of the fluid or gas, thereby reducing the pressure. Once the pressure drops below the closing pressure, the valve reseals, stopping the discharge and ensuring a secure closure. When installing a safety valve, several important considerations should be taken into account: 1. If the container holds a two-phase mixture of gas and liquid, the safety valve should be installed in the gas phase to ensure proper operation and prevent liquid carryover. 2. When venting flammable liquids, the outlet of the safety valve must be connected to an emergency storage tank. In cases where the material being vented is a high-temperature combustible, the receiving container must be equipped with appropriate fire protection and cooling measures to avoid hazards. 3. For general-purpose safety valves, the vent should be positioned at least 1 meter above the operator’s working level. It should not be directed toward open flames, spark sources, or high-temperature equipment within a 15-meter radius. For indoor equipment and containers, the vent should extend through the roof and be raised at least 2 meters above the roof surface to ensure safe dispersion of the released material. 4. If a block valve is installed on the inlet side of the safety valve, it must remain fully open at all times and should be locked or sealed to prevent accidental closure, which could lead to dangerous pressure buildup. Proper installation and maintenance of safety valves are essential for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of industrial systems. Regular inspection and testing are also recommended to verify that the valve functions correctly under various conditions.
