The four main points of setting up the safety valve

Safety Valve A safety valve is a critical device designed to protect equipment, piping, and pressure vessels—such as boilers—from damage caused by excessive pressure. When the internal pressure of the system reaches a predetermined level, slightly above the normal operating pressure (known as the set pressure), the safety valve automatically opens to release some of the fluid or gas, thereby reducing the pressure. Once the pressure drops below the set point (referred to as the reseat pressure), the valve closes automatically, sealing the system and preventing further loss of material. When installing a safety valve, several important considerations should be taken into account: 1. If the container holds a mixture of gas and liquid phases, the safety valve should be installed in the gas phase to ensure proper operation and prevent liquid from entering the valve mechanism. 2. When the safety valve is used to vent flammable liquids, its outlet must be connected to an emergency storage tank. In cases where the material being vented is a high-temperature combustible, the receiving tank should be equipped with appropriate fire protection and cooling measures to minimize risks. 3. For general safety valves, the discharge should be directed to a location that is at least 1 meter higher than the operator’s working area. The vent should not be aimed toward open flames, sparking areas, or high-temperature equipment within a 15-meter radius. For indoor equipment, the safety valve discharge must be routed through the roof and extended at least 2 meters above it to ensure safe and effective release. 4. If a block valve is installed on the inlet side of the safety valve, it should remain fully open at all times and properly sealed to prevent accidental closure or operational errors. By following these guidelines, the performance and reliability of the safety valve can be ensured, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of the system.
