(1) Soil Preparation for Loam Selection
Begin by selecting a nutrient-rich loamy soil that is well-draining and fertile. Before planting, incorporate 2,000 kg of well-decomposed organic compost per acre to improve soil structure and provide essential nutrients. Create raised beds that are 1.5 meters wide, ensuring proper aeration and drainage for the growing plants.
(2) Cutting Propagation
Choose healthy, vigorous shoots from mature plants. Cut the stems into sections that are approximately 20 cm in length, ensuring each cutting has 5 to 8 nodes. Remove the lower leaves to prevent rotting once planted. Insert the cuttings into a sand bed or a mix of sand and perlite for better root development. After 20 to 30 days, when roots have developed sufficiently, the cuttings can be transplanted into the main field.
(3) Plant Spacing
Once the cuttings are ready for transplanting, arrange them in a grid pattern with a spacing of 30 cm by 30 cm. This allows adequate room for growth, improves air circulation, and reduces the risk of disease.
(4) Field Management
In addition to the base fertilizer applied during soil preparation, it's recommended to apply a top dressing of urea every two weeks at a rate of 7 to 10 kg per acre. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the growing season. Watering should be done in conjunction with fertilization to ensure even nutrient distribution and prevent leaching. Regular weeding and monitoring for pests or diseases are also important for healthy plant growth.
(5) Harvesting
Harvest tender shoots regularly for consumption. The best time to harvest is typically every 15 to 20 days, depending on the growth rate and environmental conditions. Carefully remove the new shoots, leaving the older parts of the plant intact to encourage further growth. This method ensures a continuous supply of fresh, high-quality produce throughout the growing season.
